How we collect data
The all-in formula
All-in monthly = (12 × monthly dues + joining fee + admin fee + annual fee) ÷ 12
This is the figure that makes gyms comparable. A £24.99/mo gym with a £15 joining fee
costs more in year one than a £25.99/mo gym with no joining fee, and the all-in number
is what surfaces that.
How the at-a-glance profile is worked out
We use the five axes below to create our rating.
- Value — how the all-in monthly price compares with other priced London gyms; lower costs score higher.
- Facilities — percentile by how many facilities the operator lists.
- Transport — how easy the gym is to reach on foot from nearby stations.
- Flexibility — whether you can join without a long contract, avoid upfront fees, or buy a day pass.
- Range — the breadth of training types and membership plans on offer.
Rules we hold ourselves to
- Prices come from the operator's own site, never a directory or aggregator.
- Each gym page links to the exact source URL, so any number can be checked.
- Locations are placed in a borough using ONS postcode data, not guesswork — anything outside Greater London is dropped, even when the brand calls it "London".
- A gym with no published price is shown as unpriced rather than filled in.
- Time-limited intro offers are displayed but excluded from the all-in figure.
