The short version: we ask for as little as possible, we sell nothing to anyone, and most of what you do here never leaves your own browser.

Who we are
What Gyms Cost is operated by What Gyms Cost, London. A postal address is available on request by email. We are the data controller for everything described here. Contact us at [email protected].
What stays on your device and never reaches us
Your postcode, your saved gyms and your comparison selection are stored in your browser's own local storage. They are used to sort by distance, price a journey and remember your list. They are not sent to us, and clearing your browser data removes them completely. Storage used this way falls under the appearance-and-functionality exception in PECR, which is why this site has no cookie banner.
What you can choose to send us
- A price alert. Your email address, the gym you are watching and — if you set one — your target price, plus the outward part of your postcode (the "SE15", never the full code). Lawful basis: your consent. Used only to email you when that gym's price changes, and to understand which areas people are priced out of.
- Feedback. Your message, and an email address only if you choose to give one. Anonymous otherwise — we do not log your IP address with it.
- A price report. What you say is wrong, the source link if you have one, and an email if you want to hear back.
- A gym rating. The gym, your rating and any comment, stored without any identifier and published only in aggregate.
What is collected automatically
Page-level analytics with no cookie, no device identifier and no cross-site tracking — enough to know which pages get used and whether something is broken. One further thing is recorded when you click through to a gym's own website: which gym, and nothing about you. It tells us, and in aggregate tells gym owners, which listings people act on. We do not build advertising profiles and we do not sell data.
How we use it
- To send the price alerts you asked for.
- To review price reports and keep the data accurate.
- To understand, in aggregate, which gyms and areas people compare — so we know what to build next and what to tell operators about their market.
- To keep the site working and secure.
Who else touches it
Cloudflare hosts the site. Supabase stores the small amount of data above. Both act only on our instructions under a data processing agreement and neither may use your data for their own purposes. Where data is transferred outside the UK it is covered by the UK extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, or by standard contractual clauses with the UK addendum. We do not sell or share personal information for anyone else's marketing.
How long we keep it
Alert subscriptions until you unsubscribe, plus a short period afterwards to honour the unsubscribe. Feedback and price reports for up to two years, so we can see whether we actually fixed things. Ratings indefinitely, with no identifier attached. Outbound click records are aggregated and hold nothing about you.
Your rights
- Unsubscribe from any alert email using the link in it.
- Ask for a copy of what we hold, or ask us to correct or delete it.
- Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting anything done before.
- Complain to us — we acknowledge within 30 days — and to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk if we do not put it right.

Children
This site is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
When this policy changes we update the date at the top. Continuing to use the site means the current version applies.
